Not for the web app — it runs in a current browser with nothing to install.

The Android tablet build is an APK you install yourself; it is not sold through Google Play, so no store account is involved. The Linux build is an AppImage: one file, made executable, double-clicked. Both are bought once from the downloads page.

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on a desktop or laptop.

It is not designed for phones. A large tablet is workable in the browser, but the Android build is laid out properly for that — bigger targets, the index panel on a slide-out, and stylus input.

There is no hard page limit. The practical limit is the memory your browser will give one tab, which mostly depends on how image-heavy the pages are.

Several hundred text pages is comfortable. Several hundred high-resolution scans is not. The Linux AppImage is not bound by browser memory limits, so it is the answer for very large scanned sets.

Everything except the export. The page grid, the index panel, bookmarks, Bates numbering, the compliance check, redaction, signatures, exhibit dividers, all twenty jurisdiction presets and the whole forms library.

Writing the finished PDF is the one thing held back. Three steps open it and none of them cost money: watch one full-page advert, invite up to ten people, and have one of them join. A referral who joins free earns you {{aff_free_hours}} hours and {{aff_free_exports}} exports; a referral who starts paying earns you {{aff_paid_days}} days of DocketBasic. There are no payouts and no commission — referrals are paid for in access.

Everything runs in your browser's memory, so a very large scanned set can exhaust it. In order of effort: close other tabs; reduce the thumbnail size so fewer large previews are held; work in two halves and merge the two exported PDFs at the end; or use the Linux AppImage, which is not bound by browser memory limits.

Scanned pages are the expensive ones. A 400-page text PDF is usually lighter than 60 pages of 600 dpi scan.

Check the language first — recognition in the wrong language is the single most common cause. Then check the scan itself: pages below about 200 dpi, heavily skewed pages, faint carbon copies and handwriting are all genuinely hard. Rescanning at 300 dpi in black and white beats any amount of software.

OCR never alters what the page looks like. It adds an invisible text layer behind the image, so a bad result costs you nothing but the pages from your allowance.

Then it was exported with Keep layers. On a layered export the box is burned in as an image patch so it cannot be dragged off, but the original words remain in the file underneath it. Only Flatten destroys them.

If a redaction has to be real — a filed document, a production set, anything going to another party — flatten it, then open the exported file and try to select the text. Verify it yourself. This is the one step worth never trusting to anybody's software, including ours.

Index numbers refer to the page an entry starts on after the index itself is inserted, and some presets add a cover or place the index after page 1. Check where your preset puts the index, and check whether it uses sectioned numbering, where pages restart at 1 inside each lettered section.

If an entry points to the wrong page, select the correct page in the grid and re-add the entry. Order in the panel is bookmark order.

Export anyway. The check never blocks you, and it is a reading of a rule, not the rule itself.

If you think a preset is wrong or out of date, write in with the court and the rule number and it will be corrected — those reports are the most useful mail we get. Local rules and standing orders override everything a preset knows.

No. DocketPDF™ produces a PDF. You take that PDF to your court's e-filing portal or service provider.

We have no connection to any court system and no ability to submit anything on your behalf.

No, and nobody should sell you one. A preset is a saved reading of published requirements at a point in time.

Rules are amended, local rules and standing orders apply on top, and judges have preferences. Verify before you file.

Tell us what the rejection said — if a preset was wrong, it gets fixed and everyone benefits.

But the responsibility for a filing is the filer's, and our liability is limited as set out in the Terms of Service. Nothing in software replaces checking your own court's rules.

They open in Acrobat, Preview, a browser and any court portal, and they keep working if you stop subscribing.

That is your professional judgement, not ours. What we can tell you is where the data goes: nowhere, unless you use OCR on the web build.

You do, entirely. We claim no rights in your documents. We own the software; you own the output.

• A duplicate charge, a charge after cancelling, or a charge you did not authorise is refunded in full without argument.
• A month you did not use, having forgotten to cancel, is refunded once as a courtesy.
• A fault on our side that stopped you working is refunded for the period affected.
• Change of mind after a month of use is not normally refunded — that is what the free plan and the three-day trial are for.

Statutory rights, including the UK and EU right to cancel a distance contract, are unaffected by any of that.
